INDIANAPOLIS – The Slippery Rock University cross country course has been featured in the NCAA's Hall of Champions display at the national organization's headquarters in Indianapolis.
On a recent trip to the NCAA headquarters, SRU president Dr. Robert Smith recognized two photos hanging in the elaborate Hall of Champions.
The photos are from the 2008 NCAA Division II National Championship meet, hosted at The Rock's home course at Cooper's Lake Campground.
“We take a lot of pride in having a challenging championship level course,” said head coach
John Papa. “We might have been a little lucky to have all the snow that year, because it made for some great photos. We're happy the NCAA chose to display those at the Hall of Champions.”
The Rock's cross country course, which features layouts for all distances from middle school through collegiate 10k championships, has become one of the premier courses in the north east, playing host to thousands of runners of all ages each fall.
