Dipre Named Academic All-American

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Allegheny senior Tony Dipre of the men's cross country and track & field teams was named to the 2009-10 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America ® Third Team as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and released on Tuesday, June 22.

Dipre was selected to the All-District men's track & field/cross country first team to be placed on the All-America ballot.  To be eligible for consideration, the student-athlete must be a varsity starter key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a 4.00 scale and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution.

A neuroscience major with a minor in religious studies and a 3.77 grade-point average, Dipre was named an All-American for placing third at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships in the men's 1,500-meter run. He also was a vital part of the Gators' cross country team that third place at Nationals.

Last year, Dipre named an All-American for finishing eighth in the mile at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. He also earned NCAC Outdoor Distance Runner of the Year after winning the 1500m in an NCAA provisionally qualifying mark of 3:54.19. That mark also broke a 21-year old conference record that was set back in 1988. Dipre also earned the USTFCCCA Mideast Region Track Athlete of the Year award.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-American honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II and III, covering all NCAA championship sports.
