NEW ORLEANS – Three members of the Slippery Rock University men's track and field team were named Friday to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's All-Academic team for the 2009-10 academic year.
Ethan Geisler,
Chris Warning and
Joel Peters were all named to the All-Academic squad for their performances in the classroom and in their respective events last season.
In order to be eligible for All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA and also must reach at least the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard in their respective event.
Geisler posted the provisional mark in the 400-meter hurdles during the outdoor season, while Warning and Peters both excelled in the throwing events during the outdoor campaign.
Warning narrowly missed qualifying for nationals in the discus and also reached the provisional qualifying standard in the hammer throw. Peters posted a provisional qualifier in the hammer as well.
“I'm excited for these three guys,” said head coach
John Papa. “They worked extremely hard all year both on the track and in the classroom, and this is a fitting honor for them.”
In total, 156 individuals in Division II earned All-Academic honors from the USTFCCCA.
