Senior kicking specialist C.J. Bahr was one of 10 finalists last fall for the inaugural Fred Mitchell Award presented to a top college-division kicker

C.J. Bahr
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University's #C.J. Bahr# was included on the 40-player Watch List for the Fred Mitchell Outstanding Place-Kicker Award released Thursday.

The Watch List includes top kickers from Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), NCAA Division II, NCAA III and NAIA schools nominated by their colleges for excellence on the football field and in the community.

Bahr is one of only eight Division II kickers on the Watch List. He is also one of eight Pennsylvania student-athletes on the Watch List.

A 2009 Mitchell Award finalist, Bahr led The Rock in scoring in 2009 with 54 points (27-28 PATs, 9-14 FGs) and earned first-team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division honors. He ranks second in school history with 112 PATs (116 attempts), third in career FGs (25-40) and seventh in career scoring with 187 points.

Bahr set the school record with 50 PATs (53 attempts) as a freshman in 2007 and was 35-of-35 on PAT attempts in 2008. He had a school-record string of 65 consecutive PATs snapped by a blocked attempt Oct. 17, 2009, at Gannon. The PAT string extended back to Week 10 of the 2007 season and included a career-best 8-for-8 showing in the 2007 season finale at Edinboro.

The son of former Penn State and NFL kicker Chris Bahr and nephew of former PSU/NFL kicker Matt Bahr, C.J. tutors underprivileged youth at the I Care House in New Castle, assists with YMCA youth soccer and football clinics in the State College area and served as a volunteer at the State Cup youth soccer competition. He also developed a marketing plan for State College Spikes minor-league baseball team while serving as an intern with the team this summer, attended a Sport Entertainment and Venues Tomorrow conference in South Carolina and a Sport Sales Workshop at Quicken Loans Arena and Progressive Field in Cleveland.

The Mitchell Award is presented to the nation's top collegiate place-kicker among more than 600 FCS, Division II, III and NAIA football teams. The Award is named for Fred Mitchell, the record-setting place-kicker, Wittenberg University Athletic Hall of Famer, author, philanthropist and Chicago Tribune sports columnist. The recipient of the Fred Mitchell Award will be chosen based on excellence on the football field and in the community.

The school of the Award winner receives scholarship funds and the Fred Mitchell Award trophy will be presented in February at the National Football Foundation Chicago Metro Chapter Awards Ceremony at Halas Hall.

A blue-ribbon Selection Committee evaluates place-kickers nominated by their schools. There are nine members of the Pro and/or College Football Hall of Fame on the Selection Committee including Tom Beck, George Blanda, Kevin Butler, Lou Holtz, Paul Hornung, Marv Levy, Steve McMichael, Don Pierson and Gale Sayers.
