SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University Assistant Men's Basketball Coach
Jareem Dowling will coach the Virgin Islands squad competing in the inaugural Youth Olympic Games, which will be played Aug. 14-26 in Singapore.
The Virgin Islands will be one of only 21 countries represented in the Games' 3-on-3 basketball competition.
This adrenaline-packed game is played on a half court with one basketball hoop. It includes three intensive periods of five minutes each. The first team to score 33 points or is leading the game after the regular game time is the winner.
The Virgin Islands will compete in Group D with Philippines, Spain, South Africa and Croatia.
The Youth Olympic Games will bring together 3,600 athletes ages 14-18 from all 205 National Olympic Committees to compete in the 26 sports on the London 2012 Olympic Games program.
Following the Youth Olympic Games, Dowling will return to Slippery Rock to prepare for his third season as the top assistant to SRU head coach
