TAMPA, Fla. – Former Slippery Rock University men's soccer standout
Jeremy Deighton, now playing professionally, was named United Soccer League Division II Player of the Week this week.
Deighton, playing for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, scored two goals in two games last week to lead the team to clinching a playoff berth.
In his first professional season, Deighton has tallied five goals for 10 points while appearing in 12 games. He ranks sixth in the league in goals and tied for eighth in the league in scoring.
The Riverhounds clinched a playoff berth on the strength of a 1-0-1 week, with Deighton scoring the equalizing goal in a 1-1 tie and the opening goal of a 2-1 victory. The team will close its regular season Saturday at Harrisburg before opening the playoffs the following weekend.
Deighton, a native of Broadview Heights, Ohio, graduated last May after finishing one of the most decorated careers in Rock men's soccer history. He earned first team All-America honors for his play on the field and matched that with ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors and first team All-Academic honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
