SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Megan Eckenrode, former assistant field hockey coach at Dickinson College, has been named assistant field hockey coach at Slippery Rock University. Paul Lueken, SRU director of athletics, made the announcement Monday afternoon.

“We're very pleased to welcome Megan to Slippery Rock University,” said Lueken. “Her background as a standout collegiate player and her experiences as a coach will be an asset to our program this fall.”

Eckenrode comes to SRU after serving the past two seasons in the same role at Dickinson College. While at Dickinson, she helped lead the Red Devils to an overall record of 16-19 in two seasons, including a 10-10 mark in Centennial Conference play.

Prior to her two seasons at Dickinson, Eckenrode served as the head coach at York College for two years, taking over the program almost immediately after completing a stellar four-year playing career with the Spartans.

In her first year at York, while carrying the title of interim head coach, she led to team to a 12-9 record. With a significantly upgraded schedule the next season, the squad posted a 6-15 record to give her a career record of 18-24 as a head coach.

Eckenrode starred as the starting goalkeeper for York while working toward her undergraduate degree in sport management (May 2007). For her career, she finished with the top-four save totals in school history and posted a 1.52 goals against average, also the top mark in the school record book. She played 5,402:34 of a possible 5,419:03 minutes over the course of her career. She also posted a school-record 18 shutouts for the green and white.

Along with her experience coaching at the collegiate level, Eckenrode has also spent time coaching and playing with USA Athletes International and has served as a goalkeeping coach at the Nike Field Hockey Camp. She has worked as an elite camp instructor in camps hosted by the University of Maryland, McDaniel College and Elizabethtown College.

“We are very fortunate to have Megan joining our staff,” said first year Rock head coach Julie Zoolkoski. “Having an assistant coach with as much experience, both as a player and as a collegiate coach, is going to help us reach our goals this season.”

Eckenrode is a certified personal trainer and holds credentials from the National Strength and Conditioning Association, United States Field Hockey Coaches Association and the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.

Slippery Rock competes in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and is a member of the NCAA Division II. The Rock posted a 3-16 record last season.
