Five Runners Finish Among Top 10 For Men’s Cross Country at Piper Alumni Open Challenge

Trio of HCC alums serve as SU’s Top 3 runners on Saturday

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – A trio of Hagerstown Community College alums were the top three finishers for the Shippensburg University men's cross country team on Saturday morning as the Raider harriers performed well at the Galen E. Piper Alumni/Open Cross Country Challenge on the SU home course.

Junior Wade Miller was Shippensburg's top runner, finishing fourth overall with a time of 20:14. His brother, senior Dustin Adams, earned sixth place with a time of 20:17. The third HCC alum was junior Jeremiah Wilt, who took seventh place in 20:19.

Senior Matt Gelety earned ninth place with a solid run in 20:22 while junior Greg Ahlswede was the final SU scorer in 20:26.

Matt Wagoner won his fourth SU alumni race with a time of 19:24. The time ranks 18th-fastest in the history of the course. Other prominent alumni finishers included Pete Lobianco (11th; 20:27), Phil Diven (13th; 20:36) and Steve Lobianco (14th; 20:39).

Shippensburg won the race with a strong score of 20 points. Head coach Steve Spence decided to rest his top eight varsity runners this weekend. In two weeks, SU will compete in the Dickinson Long/Short Invitational from Carlisle High School.
