CLEVELAND, Ohio –
Sophomore Kelly Gallagher finished fourth overall and Allegheny women's cross country battled its way to a third-place finish at the 2010 Bill Sudeck Classic hosted by Case Western Reserve University. The Gators fought the elements as well as two of the top teams in the Great Lakes region during Saturday's rain-soaked meet, finishing the day with 69 points. Nationally-ranked No. 23 Case captured the team title, while Baldwin-Wallace, who is ranked fifth in the region, finished just ahead of the Blue and Gold with a score of 61.

Gallagher completed the 4k course in 15:15.61, seven seconds ahead of sixth-place finisher Kristina Martin, who enjoyed a strong rookie debut and closed with a time of 15:22.15. Senior captain Katie Stancik finished just back of Martin in 15:24.26.

The delta between Allegheny's third and fourth finishers proved costly to the Gators team effort. Senior Amber Wetzel was the team's next finisher, crossing the line in 23rd in 16:26.11. Fellow fourth-year Laura Heltman was Allegheny's final scorer, finishing 42nd in 16:56.99, while Lindsay Pugh was one step behind (16:58.03).

“The team raced well, especially in spite of Sam's (Zink) absence,” said head coach Brent Wilkerson. “It was a cold day, and the rain slowed everyone's pace, but we are mindful that we need to focus on improving our delta to achieve success at the conference championship.”

The women's race featured 73 runners. John Carroll, which has a pretty strong team four through seven, finished the meet with 77 points and grabbed fourth overall. Ursuline (151) and Notre Dame of Ohio (158) rounded out the team standings.
