Golden, Colo. The Slippery Rock University volleyball team dropped its final two matches at the Courtyard by Marriott / Residence Inn Oredigger Volleyball Classic on Saturday, losing 3-0 to Augustana (S.D.) (25-13, 25-19, 25-19) and 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-14) to Chaminade University.

SRU exits its first weekend of competition in 2010 with a record of 0-4.

Against Augustana, freshman outside hitter Lauren Rojek led the Rock with nine kills while freshman outside hitter Caroline Houston added four kills and a team-best 16 digs. Senior setter Kim Wilson added a team-high 20 assists.

After losing the first set 25-13, Slippery Rock opened up the second set with a 4-3 lead. The two evenly matched teams played each other to a 12-12 tie later in the frame and SRU hung tight with the Vikings the rest of the match, trailing just 22-19 late before three Slippery Rock attack errors gave Augustana the set at 25-19.

The Rock battled back in the third set to take an 11-9 lead before Augustana rebounded to win the set 25-19 to close out the match.

SRU was unable to find its first win of the season against Chaminade in its final match of the Oredigger Classic. Chaminade managed to jump out to a 13-6 lead in the first set, but Slippery Rock showed that it had no intentions of rolling over by rebounding to score 14 of the set's next 22 points to get to within just one point (21-20) of the Silverswords. But the run would be halted when Chaminade scored three consecutive points before finally getting its set-winning point off of a ball handling error on The Rock.

Slippery Rock had early leads of 2-0 and 2-1 in the second and third sets respectively, but could not hold on en route to Chaminade's 25-14 and 25-15 wins to claim the match.

Rojek had a team-best six kills against CU while Wilson led The Rock with 25 assists. Junior outside hitter Alee Kromer and Rojek each had 12 digs in the defeat.

Houston, sophomore opposite Sarah Cadwallader and junior middle hitter Lisa Bakaitis each accounted for five kills.

SRU will now travel to Wheeling, West Virginia for a 7 p.m. showdown on Sept. 8 with Wheeling Jesuit University.
