SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team opened the 2010 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference schedule with a 4-0 win over Millersville Wednesday at Thompson Stadium.
The Rock (3-0-0, 1-0-0 PSAC) controlled the game from the start and finished with advantages of 22-4 in total shots, 12-2 in shots on goal and 6-3 in corner kicks.
Ashley Paganie led the way for Slippery Rock, tallying a goal and two assists. Paganie has scored once in each of The Rock's first three games of the season.
Paganie kicked off the scoring in the 20th minute when she put home a crossing pass from
Juliana Howell to put SRU up 1-0.
Danielle Turner added to the lead when she scored her first collegiate goal, deflecting a shot off Millersville's keeper after taking a feed from Paganie in the 36th minute.
The Rock added two more insurance goals late in the game, the first coming when
Alyssa Barrett found the upper left corner of the net off an assist from Paganie in the 76th minute. The final goal came from
Rachel Knapp, who buried a long shot into the upper left corner in the 78th minute.
Dana O'Neill picked up her third shutout of the season after recording two saves.
Kelsey Benson took the loss for Millersville, allowing four goals and recording eight saves.
The Rock will travel to West Chester Saturday for a PSAC matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., following the men's game at noon.
