Rock falls to Wheeling Jesuit 3-1

The Slippery Rock University volleyball team lost 3-1 to Wheeling Jesuit University on Wednesday night.

Va. The Slippery Rock University volleyball team lost in four sets (3-1) Wednesday night at Wheeling Jesuit University.

After falling in the first set 25-15, The Rock (0-5) stormed back to take the second set 25-22. However, The Cardinals (4-1) were able to hold off the SRU attack and secure a win on their home court by taking the third and fourth sets 25-10 and 25-16.

The second-set victory was The Rock's first winning set of the year. SRU also posted a team season-high of six blocks.

Leading Slippery Rock on Wednesday was junior outside hitter Kaylee Smith with a total of 11 kills, 17 digs and two blocks. Smith also served up two aces.

Junior middle hitter Lisa Bakaitis also hit the double-digit mark in kills with 10 to go with one solo block and one assisted block.

Junior outside hitter Alee Kromer recorded 20 digs while sophomore outside hitter Hannah McShea added 15 digs and one ace.

Slippery Rock will look for its first win of the season this weekend at the Point Park University Volleyball Pioneer Invitational. SRU will play three matches in two days with its first being against Pitt-Johnstown at 5 p.m. on Friday.
