LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Sophomore midfielder
Gabrielle Malishchak has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division Field Hockey Athlete of the Week, as announced in a release by the league office Monday.
Malishchak earned the honor after a week in which the Wanamie, Pa. native scored a goal in each of The Rock's first two games of the season. For the week, Malishchak finished with two goals on four shots.
Malishchak 's first goal of the season came at the 3:22 mark in the first half against Seton Hill in what turned out to be a narrow 3-2 loss for Slippery Rock.
Her second goal came on Saturday at #6 Kutztown. Malishchak, who has now scored a goal in three consecutive Rock games dating back to the end of last season, led a comeback bid against the Golden Bears that fell just short (3-2) by scoring the first of Slippery Rock's two second-half goals.
Last season, Malishchak accumulated a team-high 10 points off of four goals and two assists.
Slippery Rock will be back on the road at 5 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 18) at Millersville.
