Rock netters knock off West Liberty, 6-3

Sarah Lynch and Janelle Krantz were double winners for The Rock in their opening dual match of the season

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Junior Sarah Lynch and sophomore Janelle Krantz were double winners Wednesday and led the Slippery Rock University women's tennis team to a 6-3 win over visiting West Liberty (W. Va.) University in The Rock's opening dual match of the 2010-11 season.

Lynch won her No. 1 singles match by a 7-5, 6-4 score and teamed with junior Dunja Drmac to record a 9-7 win in the No. 1 doubles match.

Krantz claimed the No. 4 singles match by a 6-2, 6-0 score after she and jer partner, redshirt freshman Elisabeth Yetiskul, won an 8-2 decision in the No. 2 doubles match.

Sophomore Melissa McCutcheon won a 6-4, 6-1 decision in the No. 5 singles match and true freshman Samantha Bruggeman captured a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 6 singles match to round out The Rock points.

The Rock, which was ranked 30th in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II poll of the 2009-10 season, returns to the courts Saturday to take on West Chester and Cheyney in matches at California University of Pa.

Wednesday's match was the only home date on the fall portion of The Rock's 2010-11 schedule.
