SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's cross country team swept the top 10 collegiate places to cruise to a win in the SRU Tri Friday evening at Cooper's Lake Campground.
The Rock finished with the lowest possible score in a cross country race with 15 points to take the team title. California (Pa.) finished second with 51 points. West Liberty State placed third with 74 points.
Brian Ulrich, who missed the first meet of the season due to working an internship this semester, picked up his first win of the season after covering the 8,000-meter course in 26:19.
Alex Koksal placed second in 26:48, followed by
Travis Arrigoni in third (26:52),
Eric Geddis in fourth (27:04) and
Dylan Klein in fifth (27:10).
Michael Beegle placed sixth, followed by
Matt Mumford,
Jason Leonard,
Rogers Clements and
Joseph Hickey.
The only runner in the top 11 that was not a Slippery Rock runner was Leon Ulrich, who finished ninth overall competing unattached. The top finisher from another school was Noah Carroll of California in 12th-place.
The Rock will take next weekend off before returning to action at Cooper's Lake Oct. 2 with the SRU Invitational.
