Rock women dominate SRU Quad

The Rock women's cross country team placed all five scorers in the top eight to win the SRU Quad Friday at Cooper's Lake.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's cross country team placed all five scorers in the top eight positions Friday to win the SRU Quad at Cooper's Lake Campground.

The Rock finished with a team score of just 21 points to win the four-way meet. California (Pa.) placed second with 56 points, followed by Clarion with 69 and West Liberty State with 104.

Crystal Burnick picked up her second win of the season in commanding fashion, covering the 6,000-meter course in 22:55, over a minute faster than the second-place finisher.

Abby Michaelian was the second Rock finisher and third overall finisher in 24:18 in her first race of the season.

Freshman Stephanie Turak placed fourth in 24:19, followed by Becky Younger in fifth at 24:27 and Becky Belding rounding out the scorers in eighth at 24:52.

Stephanie Case placed ninth for SRU, followed by Danielle Mostachetti in 11th, Kelsey Wendel in 12th, Justine Barr in 13th and Sally Dugas in 15th to round out The Rock's top 10 finishers.

The Rock will take next weekend off before returning to action at Cooper's Lake Oct. 2 with the SRU Invitational.
