The Rock defeats Millersville, loses to Lock Haven

The Slippery Rock volleyball team lost 3-1 (14-25, 25-19, 21-25, 24-26) to Lock Haven before ending the day by defeating Millersville 3-1 (18-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-23).

LOCK HAVEN, PA – The Slippery Rock University volleyball team went 1-1 in a pair of tightly contested Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover matches against PSAC-East members Lock Haven and Millersville on Friday. After losing to Lock Haven 3-1, SRU was able to rebound and defeat Millersville 3-1. With the split, The Rock's record now stands at 3-7.

Slippery Rock dropped the first set to Lock Haven 25-14, but came back strong in the second with a 25-19 win. However, the Lady Eagles (5-4) were able to edge out Slippery Rock in the third and fourth sets by scores of 25-21 and 26-24 to take the match.

Freshman Lauren Rojek and sophomore Lexi Arnold led The Rock's offensive charge with 11 and 10 kills respectively. Rojek also served up three aces.

The Green and White's defense was spearheaded by junior Alee Kromer's 15 digs. Kromer, who has now had at least 10 digs in seven of SRU's 10 matches this year, joined Rojek with three service aces as well.

The close set scores would continue into The Rock's win over Millersville as neither team won a set by more than seven points. The Marauders (4-6) took the first set 25-18 before Slippery Rock buckled down to take the next three sets 25-18, 25-23 and 25-23.

In addition to her three aces, junior Kaylee Smith produced Slippery Rock's first 20 kill performance of the season against Millersville to help guide the Green and White to victory. Smith has now collected at least 10 kills in four of SRU's previous five matches.

Arnold's strong play carried over from the Lock Haven match as the Newburg, Pa. native added 10 more kills and three more aces against Marauders.

Slippery Rock is now 9-1 in its last 10 meetings against Millersville.

The Rock will finish off the weekend with two more PSAC crossover matches on Saturday against East Stroudsburg at 10 a.m. and Shippensburg at 3 p.m. Both matches will be played in East Stroudsburg, Pa.
