EAST STROUDSBURG, PA – The Slippery Rock University volleyball team concluded its first four-match stretch of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover matches on Saturday by defeating East Stroudsburg 3-0 and Shippensburg 3-1.
The win pushes SRU's win streak to three matches which is the longest string of victories in over a year for the Green and White.
Slippery Rock (5-7) beat East Stroudsburg on the Warriors' home court with set scores of 25-19, 25-23 and 25-19.
Sophomore
Lexi Arnold recorded her first double-double of the season to lead SRU to the victory with 10 kills and 14 digs.
Junior
Kaylee Smith had a team-high 14 kills in addition to nine digs. Junior
Kristin Slavoski chipped in 12 kills and two blocks of her own while junior
Alee Kromer once again led SRU with 17 digs.
Slippery Rock needed four sets to defeat Shippensburg in the nightcap. After winning the opening set 25-23, SRU would drop the second frame 25-14 before coming through with 25-20 and 25-19 wins in the third and fourth sets respectively to earn the match victory.
Smith put together a solid outing against the Lady Raiders, collecting 11 kills and 15 digs for the second double-double of the afternoon by a Rock player.
Sophomore
Sarah Cadwallader added nine kills and two blocks to for the Slippery Rock cause while Slavoski chipped in eight kills and three blocks of her own in the win.
After 12 matches away from home to start the year, Slippery Rock will finally open up its home schedule next Friday (Sept. 24) at 7 p.m. against Indiana University of Pennsylvania in what will also be The Rock's first PSAC-West match of the season.
