#1 Shippensburg downs The Rock 4-0

Slippery Rock falls to 0-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division play.

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team surrendered a season-high in goals Tuesday night as Shippensburg University, the top-ranked team in Division II, defeated The Rock 4-0.

The loss drops SRU to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division play.

As a team, Slippery Rock had eight shots and earned five penalty corners. Seven different players recorded shots for the Green and White on offense with senior Samantha Badaczewski leading the way with two attempts.

Fellow senior Allie Hartman and sophomore Liana Pittman both produced their first shots of the year as well on Tuesday.

Senior goalie Lisa Belcastro stopped a game-high nine shots. Belcastro has now made at least nine saves in three out of four Rock contests this season.

Shippensburg (5-0, 1-0 PSAC-West) jumped out to an early lead when Ashley Taylor scored the first of her two goals on the night just 1:13 into the game.

Amanda Strous scored the second Lady Raiders goal of the game at 26:38 to give Shippensburg a 2-0 lead heading into halftime. Taylor and Kerry Senderling each scored goals midway through the second half to secure the 4-0 shutout.

Slippery Rock will begin a four-game homestand on Saturday (Sept. 25) against Kutztown University at 11 a.m. The Rock lost a close 3-2 decision to Kutztown earlier this season.
