SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (Sept. 25) - The Waynesburg University women's cross country team ran its largest meet of the young season on Saturday at the Carnegie-Mellon Mideast Pre-Regional Race.
The young team competed in a preview competition for the NCAA Mideast Regionals, which will take place on November 13. The women's team placed 11th out of 17 teams, which included three nationally ranked teams and the young Waynesburg squad had some strong performances.
Leading the way for the Yellow Jackets was freshman Tiffany Onifer, who placed 50th with a time of 25:23. She was followed closely by junior Michelle Naymick (52nd place - 25:25) and freshman Bre Paul (57th place - 25:38). Two other strong performers for the Yellow Jackets this week were Elizabeth Johnson who set her collegiate personal best with a time of 28:46 on the hilly course.
Sophomore Megan Donovan, a 2009 All-PAC performer, looks to be coming back from an eight-month hamstring injury and had her best performance of the year after crossing the line in 82nd (27:35).
The Jackets next compete at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh on October 9.
