SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team will honor breast cancer awareness month by “Playing for the Cure” during the month of October, hosting fundraising initiatives at home games to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
“A lot of schools choose one home game as a breast cancer awareness date,” said head coach Julie Zoolkoski. “We decided we would dedicate the whole month to raising money for this great cause.”
Among the initiatives planned to raise money are 50-50 raffles, flat donations, t-shirt sales and a special “Play for the Cure” game where the team will wear pink uniforms and encourage all fans in attendance to wear pink to the game.
Raffles, flat donations and t-shirt sales will take place at all home games during the month. The special “Play for the Cure” game will take place at the last home game of the month, Oct. 30 against Limestone.
Slippery Rock will play five home games in October, beginning with this Saturday when undefeated seventh-ranked Bellarmine travels to Thompson Stadium for a 1:30 p.m. match.
Fans that cannot attend home games during the month can make contribute to the fund by contacting Zoolkoski or assistant coach
