Rock takes third at SRU Invitational

The Rock men's cross country team placed third in the SRU Invitational Saturday at Cooper's Lake Campground.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's cross country team placed third at the SRU Invitational Saturday at Cooper's Lake Campground.

The Rock posted a team score of 85 points, trailing team champions Dickinson with 23 points and second-place Elizabethtown with 68 points. Messiah placed fourth with 131 points and Gwynedd-Mercy rounded out the top-five with 145 points.

Brian Ulrich was the top Rock finisher for the second week in a row, crossing the line in eighth-place with a time of 26:06 on the 8,000-meter course.

Travis Arrigoni ran a great race to be the second finisher for SRU, crossing the line in 12th-place with a time of 26:15.

Jason Leonard was the third SRU finisher, placing 20th in a time of 26:33. Leonard was followed by Alex Koksal in 25th at 26:43, Eric Geddis in 29th at 26:52, Morgan Elliott in 31st at 26:58 and Matt Mumford in 36th at 27:20.

The Rock will rest next weekend before returning to action Saturday, Oct. 16 at the Penn State National Invite in State College, Pa.
