Zach Hall, Tim White lead Rock past Ohio Dominican, 1-0

Zach Hall scored on a breakaway in the second half and Timothy White recorded a shutout in his first appearance of the year to lead The Rock to a 1-0 win over Ohio Dominican Tuesday in Columbus, Ohio.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Zach Hall scored on a breakaway and Timothy White earned a shutout in his first start of the season to lead the Slippery Rock University men's soccer team to a 1-0 non-conference win over Ohio Dominican Tuesday afternoon.

Slippery Rock (8-2-1) and Ohio Dominican (7-3-0) each entered Tuesday's game ranked as one of the top teams in their respective regions. The Rock was ranked fourth in the Atlantic Region by the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Committee and Ohio Dominican was ranked third in the Midwest Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Hall scored the game-winning and only goal of the game in the 66th minute when he capitalized on a defensive breakdown and beat keeper Tyler Gleason on a breakaway. His shot was The Rock's only shot of the second half and the goal was the second of the season for the freshman.

White, subbing for All-American keeper Greg Blum, was flawless in his first action of the season. The sophomore ran his career record to 2-0-0 and posted his second shutout after recording four saves. Last season, as a true freshman, White appeared in five games and made one start. For his career, he has made 12 saves and allowed no goals in 292 minutes of action.

Ohio Dominican finished the game with advantages of 12-6 in total shots, 4-2 in shots on goal and 9-1 in corner kicks.

Mitchell Walters was the lone Rock player to tally more than one shot, finishing with two.

Andrew Edler led Ohio Dominican with four shots, while Justin Wheeler and AJ Mueller each added two. Gleason made one save in the losing effort.

Slippery Rock will face its second tough non-conference challenge of the week when Ashland visits Egli Field Friday for a 4 p.m. match. The Eagles are ranked 15th in this week's NSCAA/Hendrickcars.com Division II national rankings and are ranked second in the Midwest Region by the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Committee.
