NEW ORLEANS – After an extraordinary weekend of competition from the Ninth Annual Greater Louisville Classic, the Shippensburg University cross country teams continued their ascent up the national rankings and sit among the Top 8 teams in Division II, according to the latest data released by the USTFCCCA.
The women's program improved its national ranking by three spots and is the No. 3 team in Division II. Perennial powers Grand Valley State and Adams State are the only programs ahead of the Lady Raiders. This past weekend, junior
Neely Spence set a course record and senior
Mary Dell finished seventh
as the Lady Raiders earned a fourth-place finish as a team.
The men's program advanced four spots in the rankings and is the No. 6 team in Division II. All seven of the top runners for the men's cross country team established new 8K PRs on Saturday,
allowing the group to finish fifth overall amidst a loaded field of Division I talent. Senior
Bryan Beegle was SU's No. 1 runner, finishing 38th overall. Both teams ran at Sawyer Park, the site of December's Division II National Championships.
In two weeks, Shippensburg will compete in the Gettysburg College Invitational. The men's 8K race will begin at 11 a.m. while the women's 6K meet is scheduled to start at noon.
