#21 Rock moves up to #2 in Atlantic Region

The Rock men's soccer team moved up two places to No. 2 in this week's Atlantic Regional rankings, released Tuesday by the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Committee. SRU also moved back into the National Rankings released by the NSCAA at No. 21.

INDIANAPOLIS – The 21st-ranked Slippery Rock University men's soccer team moved up two places to No. 2 in this week's NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rankings, released by the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Committee Tuesday afternoon.

The Rock, ranked fourth in the first regional rankings released last week, improved two places on the strength of a 2-0 week that included wins over two of the top teams in the Midwest Region, a 1-0 win over Ohio Dominican on the road and a 2-1 win over No. 15 Ashland at Egli Field.

SRU trails only Mercyhurst in the regional rankings released this week. The Lakers, ranked No. 4 in this week's national poll, have yet to lose a game and boast a 9-0-1 overall record. The Rock slots in at second at 9-2-1, followed by No. 12 Gannon at 10-2-0, East Stroudsburg (9-3-0), California (7-3-2) and Charleston (7-2-1).

Slippery Rock also moved back into the national rankings released Tuesday by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, despite an error being made by the poll's administrators.

The administrators of the NSCAA/Hendrickcars.com poll recorded Slippery Rock's win at Ohio Dominican last week as a 1-0 loss, incorrectly listing SRU's record as 8-3-1.

Despite the error, SRU was ranked 21st in this week's national poll and third in the NSCAA regional rankings, slotting in behind Mercyhurst and Gannon.

The Rock will travel to No. 12 Gannon Wednesday night for a crucial Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
