SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team snapped its four-game losing streak Tuesday afternoon with a 2-0 shutout of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division rival Indiana (Pa.) at Thompson Stadium.

Senior Katie Krouse and junior Skylar Brosse both scored their third goals of the year to guide Slippery Rock (2-9, 1-3 PSAC-West), past the No. 8 Crimson Hawks (5-5, 1-3 PSAC-West). Brosse, Krouse and junior Erin Moran all registered two shots on goal in the winning-effort. Seniors Samantha Badaczewski and Allie Hartman assisted on the scores.

Senior goalie Lisa Belcastro earned the win, and her second career shutout, after stopping 11 shots. Belcastro, who entered the day ranked amongst the best in Division II in saves per game, has now blocked at least 11 shots in three consecutive games.

After coming up scoreless on its fist three shots of day, SRU would gain control of the game when Brosse placed a shot past Crimson Hawk goalie Laura Brust at 26:39 to give The Rock a 1-0 lead. Hartman was credited with the assist, her fourth of the season. The score would be the only of half as the two teams headed into halftime with Slippery Rock leading 1-0.

As was the case in the first period, Belcastro and the rest of the Slippery Rock defense thwarted the Indiana (Pa.) attack in the second half by stopping five shots and successfully clearing three corners. With less than five minutes to play in regulation, Krouse added an insurance goal when she received a pass from Badaczewski and proceeded to shoot past the charging Brust into an open net for the 2-0 lead.

The win was Slippery Rock's first triumph over Indiana (Pa.) since a 2-1 victory in 1997.

Indiana (Pa.) was led by Anouk Sickman's four shots on goal. Trish Morris also made two defensive saves in the loss. As a team, Indiana (Pa.) held the advantages in shots (16-8) and corners (11-9).

Slippery Rock will hit the road for a Sunday (Oct. 17) showdown at No. 1 East Stroudsburg.
