STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's cross country team finished 21st overall and third among NCAA Division II schools at the Penn State National Invite Saturday in at the Penn State Golf Course.
The Rock placed 21st in the primarily Division I meet, posting a team score of 638 points. Syracuse won the meet with 61 points.
Grand Valley State was the top Division II school, finishing fourth with 139 points. Lock Haven placed seventh with 220 points.
Travis Arrigoni was the top Slippery Rock finisher Saturday, covering the 5.2 mile course in a time of 27:25 to place 111th.
Jason Leonard crossed the line in the same time as Arrigoni, finishing 112th.
Morgan Elliott was the third finisher, placing 124th in 27:42. Elliott was followed by
Eric Geddis in 145th (27:56) and
Brian Ulrich in 146th (27:59) to round out the scorers.
Matt Mumford crossed the line 150th in 28:11 and
Michael Beegle placed 157th in 28:24 to round out the top-seven finishers for The Rock.
SRU will travel to the Gannon/Mercyhurst invite next Saturday, Oct. 23, in Erie, before heading into the championship season with the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championships Nov. 6 at California (Pa.)
