Rock finishes 25th at PSU National Invite

The Rock finished 25th overall and fourth among NCAA Division II teams Saturday at the PSU National Invite.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's cross country team finished 25th overall and fourth among NCAA Division II schools at the Penn State National Invite Saturday in at the Penn State Golf Course.

The Rock posted a team score of 717 to finish 25th out of 31 complete teams at the primarily Division I meet. Villanova won the team title with 26 points.

Slippery Rock was the fourth Division II school in the standings, following Grand Valley State in fourth, Ferris State in 16th and Lock Haven in 24th.

Crystal Burnick was the top Rock finisher Saturday, continuing her streak of being the top finisher in each race of the season. She covered the 6,000-meter course in 21:53, placing 46th overall and eighth among Division II runners.

Stephanie Case was the second finisher for SRU, placing 151st in 23:32. Becky Belding followed in 170th in 24:01. She was followed by Sally Dugas in 174th (24:04) and Abby Michaelian in 176th (24:08) to round out The Rock scorers.

Caitlin Hancox placed 184th in 24:20 and Sarah Olesky finished 205th in 24:56 to round out the top-seven finishers.

A total of 403 runners finished the race.

SRU will travel to the Gannon/Mercyhurst invite next Saturday, Oct. 23, in Erie, before heading into the championship season with the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championships Nov. 6 at California (Pa.)
