GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Despite resting its top seven runners on Saturday, the Shippensburg University women's cross country team received a sensational performance by freshman
Patty Reis and placed five runners among the Top 25 to win the 6K Gettysburg Invitational.
Reis, who earned a district medal in track as a high school senior, had never run cross country before coming to Shippensburg. She continues to develop and impress as a young runner after finishing fifth in Saturday's race with an impressive time of 23:17. It is a 39-second improvement from her 6K effort at Dickinson earlier this season.
Sophomore
Ashley Fornshell was SUs No. 2 runner on Saturday, posting a time of 23:59 to earn 14th place. Senior
Lindsey Hollenshead was just one place and three seconds behind Fornshell's pace.
Freshman
Allison Constant continued her strong debut season with an 18th-place finish in 24:08. She was SU's No. 4 runner.
Rounding out the Top 5 was redshirt junior
Steph Sleboda, who ran her best 6K race as a collegian. Sleboda improved her 6K PR by an impressive 39 seconds, finishing in 25th place with a time of 24:19. She continues to make great strides as a runner, having improved her 6K pace from last year's PSAC Championships by nearly 90 seconds.
Saturday's race is another showcase for the depth and quality of the SU women's program, currently ranked No. 3 in Division II.
SU will compete next weekend in the Kutztown University Division II Challenge.
