GETTYSBURG, Pa. – It took one of the
Lost Boys of Sudan to keep senior
Bryan Beegle from winning the 8K race held in his hometown Saturday, as SU's veteran runner finished second while the Red Raiders finished second at the Gettysburg Invitational despite using none of their other top seven runners.
Beegle ran a sensational race and finished with a time of 25:44 as the top scoring performer. He was bested only by Macharia Yuot – a former Widener University standout who, as a senior, won NCAA outdoor national titles in the 10K, 3K steeplechase, and 5K in successive days. Yuot won Saturday's race in 25:33.
Junior
Jeremiah Wilt continued his strong season with a seventh-place finish in 26:19. Wilt's previous 8K race for Shippensburg came four weeks ago at Dickinson, where he posted an 8K time of 27:37.
Fellow junior
Eric Evans improved 20 seconds off his collegiate 8K PR with a solid time of 26:44, good enough for a 16th-place finish. Sophomore
John Reilly ran 65 seconds faster than his 8K pace from Dickinson this season and recorded a 31st-place finish in 27:08.
Senior
Dustin Adams was SU's No. 5 runner on Saturday, finishing 35th with a time of 27:13.
Saturday's race is another showcase for the depth and quality of the SU men's program, currently ranked No. 6 in Division II.
SU will compete next weekend in the Kutztown University Division II Challenge.
