Rock falls 6-1 at #1 East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team lost to No. 1 East Stroudsburg 6-1 Sunday at Whitenight Field in East Stroudsburg, Pa. The six goals surrendered were the most by The Rock (2-10, 1-3 PSAC-West) this season.

Junior forward Rebecca Coleman scored Slippery Rock's lone goal. The score was her first of the season. Senior forward Samantha Badaczewski assisted on the goal. Badaczewski has now assisted on SRU goals each of the past two contests to push her season total to three. Junior Erin Moran had a team-best three shots on goal for The Rock.

Senior goalie Lisa Belcastro made eight saves and allowed all six East Stroudsburg (12-1, 3-0 PSAC-East) goals in 70 minutes of play.

After 16 minutes of scoreless play to begin the contest, Mallory Pope scored the first East Stroudsburg goal of the game at 16:42 to open up a 1-0 lead. Pope's score turned out to be the first of four ESU goals in the next 12 minutes as the Warriors extended its lead to 4-0 with 6:34 to play in the half.

Moran put a shot on goal at 30:19, but it was stopped by East Stroudsburg goalie Maureen Ordnung and the two teams headed into halftime with ESU up 4-0.

Coleman opened up the second half by firing off two shots in the opening four minutes of the play with her second strike finding the back of the cage to give SRU its first score of the game. However, East Stroudsburg's Caitlin Brownley scored two consecutive goals as ESU went on to win 6-1.

The Warriors held a 22-11 advantage over Slippery Rock in shots and an 11-5 advantage in corners. Pope led East Stroudsburg with one goal and three assists.

Slippery Rock will return home for a Tuesday PSAC-West game against Shippensburg at 4 p.m. SRU will be looking to avenge its 4-0 loss against the Raiders from earlier this season.
