LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University standout
Crystal Burnick has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Burnick earns her first weekly honor of the season after putting in a stellar performance at the Penn State National Invite Saturday in State College, Pa.
Burnick led all PSAC runners and was the eighth Division II finisher in a primarily Division I race. The only Division II runners to place ahead of Burnick came from Grand Valley State, last season's runner-up at the NCAA Division II National Championships.
Her time of 21:53 over the 6,000-meter course was good enough for 46th-place in a field of 304 runners. That time is a season-best by 16 seconds for Burnick, who has been the top SRU finisher in every meet this season.
The Rock will send a limited squad to the Gannon/Mercyhurst Invite this Saturday before heading to the PSAC Championships Nov. 6 at California (Pa.)
