4/23-Wind and rain don\'t prevent top performances at Larry Simmons Inv @ Penncrest HS

There was rain and wind, but there were also some top-notch performances in the Lion Invitational - now known as the Larry Simmons Invitational in memory of Penncrest\'s great coach who died last year. Great Valley\'s triple threat Janessa Murphy pulled off two 1st\'s and a 2nd. Her 12.56 won the 100. She leapt 18-01 to take the Long Jump. And her 26.04 was just .02 behind 200 winner Katie Quinn of Interboro. 400 specialists Matt Houser of Downingtown East and Max Westman of Lower Merion, went at it head-to-head, with Houser taking the win 49.58 to 50.19. Downingtown West\'s Joanna Horstmann was quick in the rainy girls\' 800, going 2:18.3. Malvern Prep\'s Elliot Whaley was quick in the 300 Hurdles, timed in 39.91. Host Penncrest got wins in the Shot Put from Karen Shump (40-09.25) and Mike Morganti (50-03); and in the Discus from Terrence Jackson (150-02) and the boy\'s 4x100, which went 44.40. Andrew McCloskey went 23.15 in the 200.
