SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. Shelby Ward pushed the Slippery Rock University women's soccer team's current unbeaten streak to eight games when she struck the game-winner in overtime Tuesday to hand Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference rival Indiana (Pa.) a 1-0 loss at Thompson Stadium.

With the win, Slippery Rock (10-3-2, 8-3-2 PSAC) improves to 6-0-2 in its last eight games and remains in third in the PSAC standings, increasing its points total to 26. Indiana (8-6-1, 6-6-1 PSAC) remains sixth in the league standings with 19 points.

With SRU only having one conference game left on the schedule and many of the teams below The Rock in the conference standings still having games in hand, a guaranteed trip to the conference playoffs will have to wait for the results of those other teams' next few games.

Tuesday's game was all Slippery Rock from the start. The Rock finished the match with advantages of 22-5 in total shots and 6-2 in shots on goal, never really allowing Indiana a solid scoring chance.

SRU posted a 9-2 advantage in shots in the first half, but could not convert on multiple scoring chances to keep the game scoreless.

The second half was more of the same, with The Rock owning a 12-3 edge in shots, but again failing to convert.

Ward capitalized on the first and only shot of the extra session when she took a pass from Ashley Paganie down the right wing, paused for a moment, and drilled a shot from 20 yards out into the upper left corner for the game-winner.

The goal was Ward's team-leading seventh of the season, while Paganie picked up her third assist of the year.

Goalkeeper Dana O'Neill earned her fifth shutout of the season and improved her record to 6-2 after making two saves, one in each half of regulation.

Kelly Brennan registered five saves in the losing effort for Indiana.

The Rock's lone remaining PSAC match is an away trip to Lock Haven Oct. 30. The conference playoff picture will begin to shake out long before that, with most teams scheduled for at least three more conference matches in that stretch.

Before returning to conference play, Slippery Rock will attempt to bolster its resume in the Atlantic Region with two matches against West Virginia opponents. The Rock will travel to Wheeling Jesuit this Saturday (Oct. 23) for a 6 p.m. kickoff before hosting Charleston Oct. 27 at 1 p.m.
