ELKINS, W. Va. – The 18th-ranked Slippery Rock University men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 upset on the road at Atlantic Region rival Davis & Elkins Tuesday afternoon at River Bend Park.
The Rock (10-4-1) moved up to No. 18 in the national rankings released by the National Soccer Coaches Association of American and dropped to No. 3 in the Atlantic Region rankings released by the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Committee when the rankings were released by each organization just prior to Tuesday's game.
Davis & Elkins (6-6-2) scored the upset win on the strength of a 73rd minute goal from Bediako Swan, who finished the game with seven of his team's nine shots.
Slippery Rock posted advantages of 15-9 in total shots and 8-2 in corner kicks, but only registered one shot on target as the Senators held a 4-1 edge in shots on goal.
Greg Blum allowed one goal and made three saves in the loss. His counterpart Ryan Krum made just one save on a shot from
Kenneth Fultz in earning the shutout win.
The Rock will travel to West Virginia Wesleyan Saturday for their third consecutive game against a West Virginia opponent. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
