INDIANAPOLIS – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team remained fifth in this week's Atlantic Region rankings, released Wednesday by the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Committee.
Along with remaining in position for a potential NCAA Tournament berth, The Rock qualified for the conference playoffs after Tuesday night's other matches in league play. SRU, Bloomsburg, California and West Chester have all guaranteed themselves a spot in the playoffs.
The top-five teams in the Atlantic Region remained unchanged from the initial rankings that were released last week.
The Rock is unbeaten in its last eight games, posting a record of 6-0-2 over that stretch, and owns an overall record of 10-3-2 after a 1-0 victory over Indiana (Pa.) yesterday.
West Chester remained atop the regional rankings, followed by California (Pa.), Bloomsburg, Kutztown, SRU and Edinboro rounding out the top six.
The top six teams in the region when the final poll is released Nov. 8 will qualify for the NCAA Division II tournament.
Slippery Rock owns a 4-3-1 record against teams ranked in the top-10 in the region and will play the only other team it has yet to face next week when Charleston visits Thompson Stadium Oct. 27.
Prior to the Charleston game, The Rock will travel to Wheeling Jesuit Saturday for a 4 p.m. match.
