SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – After having long returns wiped out by penalties in each of the previous two games, Slippery Rock University senior Robert Doiley had one that counted Saturday afternoon.

Doiley returned a punt 76 yards to account for the fifth of eight SRU touchdowns in a 56-14 Homecoming win over visiting Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division football action on Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.

Redshirt sophomore running back Akeem Satterfield rushed for 123 yards on 16 carries and scored three touchdowns and true freshman RB LaQuinn Stephens-Howling added 115 yards on 10 carries and scored two TDs to lead The Rock offense.

The Rock's No. 3 running back, sophomore Chris Darby also put points on the scoreboard with a one-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter and finished with 71 yards on 15 carries.

The three-pronged rushing attack paved the way to a 401-yard total offense effort by The Rock, who threw only 10 passes in the game.

Junior tight end Josh Gardner caught a 13-yard TD pass from redshirt sophomore quarterback Ryan Sabo to account for SRU's third TD and finished the game with two receptions for 25 yards.

Sabo was 6-of-9 passing for 60 yards and had one pass intercepted. Backup QB Kellen O'Neill completed his only pass attempt for a 17-yard gain to sophomore tight end Kevin Price.

Senior kicking specialist #C.J. Bahr booted seven extra points and junior Kurt Brackman# had one to round out The Rock scoring attack.

Defensively, The Rock allowed 219 total yards and forced four turnovers (two fumbles, two interceptions).

Junior free safety Brandon Watters led The Rock defensive effort with 10 tackles, one interception and one forced fumble. He also broke up a pass and had one tackle for loss (-3 yards).

Robert Doiley
Junior linebacker Zach Sheridan had nine tackles and a fumble recovery, while sophomore backup cornerback Brandon Burley had one fumble recovery, one forced fumble and one interception.

Saturday's win gave SRU a 6-2 overall record this fall, 3-2 in PSAC-West action, and was the 19th SRU Homecoming win recorded by 23-year Rock Head Football Coach George Mihalik.

Lock Haven (0-8 overall, 0-5 PSAC-West) suffered its 29th consecutive loss overall and 22nd straight in meetings with The Rock, but gave the Green and White an early wakeup call.

The Bald Eagles marched 74 yards in seven plays on the game's opening drive to take a quick 7-0 lead. Jarrett Kratzer's one-yard run capped the drive with 11:20 left to play in the opening period.

The Rock ran four plays on its first drive before it was forced to punt the football back to Lock Haven.

One play later, though, SRU had the ball back as Watters forced Lock Haven running back Brandon Brader to fumble the ball and Sheridan pounced on the loose ball at the Lock Haven 5-yard line.

That set the stage for the first of Satterfield's three TD runs, a three-yard burst with 8:17 left in the first period that tied the score at 7-7.

The Rock never looked back from there as they scored touchdowns on five of their next seven possessions to take a 42-7 lead with just over 30 seconds gone in the third 15-minute period. Satterfield's third TD, a 31-yard run, capped the drive.

Satterfield's second TD came on a one-yard run late in the second period.

Stephens-Howling scored his first collegiate TD on a nine-yard run in the final minute of the opening period and added a 34-yard TD sprint with 10:11 left to play to conclude the game's scoring.

Kratzer hit Jesse Hoover for a 27-yard TD with 4:23 left in the third period to account for Lock Haven's second and final TD of the game.

The Rock returns to action next Saturday, when they will travel north on I-79 for the first of three stiff challenges in the final weeks of the regular-season, a noon battle in Erie with PSAC-West co-leader Mercyhurst College.

Mercyhurst (6-2, 4-1 PSAC-W) moved into a tie for the top spot in the division standings with a 31-21 win Saturday over third-ranked and previously unbeaten California (Pa.).

California (7-1, 4-1 PSAC-W) and Mercyhurst lead both The Rock and Gannon (5-3, 3-2 PSAC-W) by one game in the division standings.

The Rock hosts Gannon Nov. 6 in the final week of division competition, then entertains C.W. Post in the final game on the regular-season schedule.

C.W. Post took a 5-2 overall record and 4-0 PSAC-Eastern Division record into its Saturday night game at 18th-ranked Kutztown (7-0, 4-0 PSAC-E).
