Rock downs Wheeling Jesuit 2-0, unbeaten streak at nine

Stephanie Buckenheimer scored her first collegiate goal and Izabel Scott picked up her first collegiate point as The Rock women's soccer team pushed its unbeaten streak to nine games with a 2-0 win at Wheeling Jesuit Saturday.

WHEELING, W. Va. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team ran its current unbeaten streak to nine games with a 2-0 shutout on the road at Wheeling Jesuit Saturday afternoon.

The Rock has posted a record of 7-0-2 over its last nine games and now owns an overall record of 11-3-2 with one week remaining in the regular season. Wheeling Jesuit dropped to 8-9 overall with the loss.

Shelby Ward and Stephanie Buckenheimer each tallied goals for The Rock, while Izabel Scott picked up an assist.

Buckenheimer's goal was the first of her collegiate career, while Scott's assist was the first point of her collegiate career.

Slippery Rock finished the match with advantages of 16-8 in total shots, 10-6 in shots on goal and 6-2 in corner kicks.

Ward kicked off the scoring with her team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 19th minute when she beat Wheeling keeper Chelsey Trefnoff after taking a pass from Scott.

Buckenheimer added an unassisted insurance goal in the 88th minute.

Dana O'Neill earned her sixth shutout of the season in goal, stopping six shots to improve to 6-2-0 on the year.

Trefnoff made eight saves in the losing effort.

The Rock returns home for their final regular season home match Wednesday, Oct. 27, when the University of Charleston visits Thompson Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

Slippery Rock will close the regular season with its final Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match next Saturday at Lock Haven. The Rock has already clinched a berth in the conference playoffs and can finish anywhere between third and sixth in the final standings.
