SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Junior
Erin Moran scored a career-high two goals as the Slippery Rock University field hockey team cruised to a 5-0 victory over Mercy College Sunday at Thompson Stadium.
The five goal outburst not only snapped a two-game losing streak for Slippery Rock (3-11, 1-5 PSAC-West), but was also the most goals scored by The Rock since a 5-0 win over American International last season.
Joining Moran with goals for SRU were senior
Allie Hartman, junior
Rebecca Coleman and sophomore
Liana Pittman. Pittman's score was her first career-score. Hartman also had one assist as did senior
Katie Krouse, junior
Brittany Schultz and freshman
Amanda Scheel.

Lauren Beeker, who saw her first action of the season on Sunday, combined for the shutout as Mercy (0-10) did not record a shot.
After Slippery Rock peppered Mercy's cage with several shots to begin the game, Coleman finally got The Rock on the board at 10:52 with her second goal of the year to give SRU a 1-0 lead. Despite totaling 11 shots and nine corners in the first half, Coleman's goal would be the only points scored in the opening 35 minutes for SRU as the two squads went into the half with Slippery Rock up 1-0.
However, Slippery Rock would proceed to pick things up in the second half, scoring early and often. Pittman started the scoring onslaught with her goal off of Schultz's assist just 2:31 into the half with Hartman continuing the streak less than five minutes later (41:31) when she scored off of a corner from Scheel to extend The Rock's lead to 3-0. The goal was Hartman's first of the season.
Moran concluded the day for the Green and White with consecutive goals that occurred within 10 minutes of each other. At 47:29, she converted a Krouse pass for a score and at 56:01 Moran, who also leads The Rock with two defensive saves on the season, scored the game's final goal off of a feed from Hartman thanks to one of Slippery Rock's nine corners in the second half for the 5-0 lead.
As a team, Slippery Rock held 20-0 and 18-0 advantages in shots and corners respectively over the Mavericks.
The Rock will return to PSAC-West action on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Mercyhurst.
