Anthony Paganie was named Tuesday to first team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors. Paganie will now advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America voting.

Anthony Paganie
was named Tuesday to first team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors in voting done by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

As a member of the first team, Paganie will now advance to the ballot for Academic All-America honors.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-America nomination, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and be a starter or significant reserve.

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America teams will be announced by CoSIDA Nov. 17.

Paganie, who is a senior academically and a junior in athletic standing, will graduate this spring with his degree in health and physical education.

The Ambridge, Pa. native ranks second on the team in scoring this season, helping to guide The Rock to the conference playoffs with four goals and four assists. His four goals and 12 points are both career-bests.

Paganie is one of only three players in the PSAC to be named to first team honors, joining Danny Drago from East Stroudsburg and Bryce Shaffer from Bloomsburg in advancing to the Academic All-America ballot.

The Rock has had at least one student-athlete earn Academic All-America honors in each of the last 10 academic years. SRU ranks sixth in Division II and first in the PSAC in total selections with 56.

Slippery Rock earned the No. 4 seed in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoffs and will begin defense of its league title with a semifinal match at Shippensburg Wednesday night. Kickoff in that match is set for 6 p.m.
