Rock's Goda earns first-team ESPN Academic All-District® honor

SRU's C.J. Bahr and Austin Fedell were both named to second-team Academic All-District® honors in voting by the College Sports Information Directors of America

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Junior wide receiver Devin Goda led a group of three Slippery Rock University football players named Thursday as ESPN Academic All-District® 2 College Division performers in voting by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Goda, a junior from Monongahela and an Elizabeth Forward High School graduate, earned a first-team Academic All-District® honor.

Rock teammates #C.J. Bahr#, a senior kicker from Boalsburg and State College High School, and Austin Fedell, a junior offensive lineman from Wexford and North Allegheny High School, each received a second-team Academic All-District® honor.

As a first-team Academic All-District® selection, Goda is now eligible for an Academic All-America® honor.

Goda is The Rock's leading receiver this fall with 50 catches for 539 yards and three touchdowns. He ranks second in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in pass receptions per game and eight in pass receiving yards per game. He ranks 35th among all NCAA Division II receivers in catches per game, 71st in receiving yards per game and 93rd in total pass receiving yards.

A safety major at SRU and owner of a 3.71 grade point average, Goda earned second-team All-PSAC-West honors in 2009 after he caught 31 passes for 466 yards and three TDs. He currently ranks sixth on SRU's single-season pass receptions chart and is four catches away from a spot in the career pass receptions top 10.

Goda was one of seven PSAC student athletes to earn first-team Academic All-District® football honors this fall. Bahr and Fedell were included in a group of six PSAC student athletes who earned second-team Academic All-District® honors.

Bahr is SRU's second leading scorer this fall with 41 points on a 20-of-22 proficiency in extra point attempts and an 7-of-9 effort in field goal attempts. He ranks second on both SRU's career PATs (132) and FGs (32) lists and needs only four FGs in the final two games to set a school record.

A sport management major at SRU and owner of a 3.75 GPA, Bahr earned first-team All-PSAC-West honors in 2009. He was also a finalist last fall for the first-ever Fred Mitchell Outstanding Place-Kicker Award presented to the top college-division kicker in the nation. He holds SRU school records for consecutive FGs kicked (65) and single-season PATs (50 as a freshman in 2007) and has been successful on 92 of his last 95 extra point attempts. He was a perfect 35-of-35 as a sophomore in 2008.

Bahr is following in the footsteps of his father, Chris, and uncle, Matt, both of whom were placekickers at Penn State University and in the National Football League. Another of his uncles, Casey Bahr, is a former U.S. Olympic Soccer Team member; his aunt, Davies Ann Bahr, is a former All-America gymnast at Penn State and his grandfather, Walter Bahr, is a two-time inductee into the National Soccer Hall of Fame and a former head soccer coach at Temple and Penn State universities.

Fedell is a second-year starter at left offensive guard for The Rock and owns a 3.71 GPA as a sport management major at SRU. Prior to joining The Rock, he earned a spot in the prestigious Big 33 high school football all-star game and received first-team all-state status.

Goda is the second Rock fall-sport student athlete to receive first-team Academic All-District® honors in 2010-11. Men's soccer standout Anthony Paganie was selected to a similar honor last week.

Goda and Paganie will seek to extend a string of success enjoyed by Rock student athletes in Academic All-America® competitions. The Rock has had at least one student-athlete earn Academic All-America® honors in each of the last 10 academic years. SRU ranks sixth in Division II and first in the PSAC in total selections with 56 Academic All-America® selections.
