5/6-Just nine inches separated Gehret-Hannon in three events @ West Coaches Inv @ Altoona

There are some feature events at every meet. At this one, that event was actually multiplied by three, as Junior talents Rachel Gehret, on her home track, and Bradford\'s Erin Hannon, faced off in the three jumps that don\'t involve a pole. Hannon got the better of Gehret in one, the High Jump. Both girls cleared 5-06, with Hannon getting the nod on fewer misses. But Gehret was on her game in the Triple and Long Jumps, going 38-07 to edge Hannon by just six inches, and then launching an 18-07 jump to beat Hannon by a mere three inches in the Long. When the two went their separate ways in the running events, each was victorious, as Hannon took the 100 Hurdles in 15.27 seconds... and Gehret absolutely dominated the 200 field, running 25.28. State College sophomore Katherine Ward is looking more like she believes she\'s a front-runner, confidently taking over the 1600 early to win in 5:19.36. She then came back in the 3200 to hold off Bradford freshman Sarah Lonzi 11:40.78 to 11:42.94. Elk County\'s Maureen Newell had the best 1600 of the night, running a 5;15.50 to win the AA race. The Elk County Catholic girls lost half of their top 4x800 from last year\'s squad, but they look to be returning to form, leading the entire way to finish in 9:41.03, the fastest time of the night. North East\'s Bradlee Foerschner put the shot 39-11 and tossed the Discus 106.08 for a double win night. The North East girls won the AA team title, and Altoona held the home turf to beat State College in 2nd.

There is a new sprinter in town, and he is running some quick times. Altoona frosh AJ Alexander was faster than anyone in AA or AAA in the 100, going 10.90. He did win the AA 200 in 22.71 after going 22.66 in the trials. His AA counterpart, junior Brad Kanuch of Westmost Hilltop, went 21.96 in the 200, and 11.09 to take the 100 after a 10.95 in the prelims. Kanuch also turned his attentions to the Long and Triple Jumps, winning the three-stepper with a 46-07.75 effort, and also took 1st in the Long Jump at 21-08.50. Senior David Adewumi of State College ran a 1:57.11 to take the 800. Nate Kiss of Windber is rolling in the 110 Hurdles, posting a 14.79. In the High Jump, Cody Hartzler of Indian Valley cleared 6-07. Altoona\'s Dustin Murtagh was happy to be outside after the indoor experience of the Penn Relays, clearing 14-09 to win. And Josh Feronti, Johnsonburg, threw the Javelin 181-04. Elk County Catholic won the boys AA title, while Altoona won the AAA.
