CALIFORNIA, Pa. – Freshman
Travis Arrigoni paced the Slippery Rock University men's cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championship meet Saturday at the University of California.
The Rock posted a team score of 148 points to finish behind Shippensburg (24), Lock Haven (59) and Edinboro (61). East Stroudsburg rounded out the top-five with 151 points.
Arrigoni narrowly missed earning All-Conference honors with a 21st place finish, covering the 8,000-meter course in 27:21. The top-20 finishers are named to the All-PSAC squad.
Eric Geddis was the second SRU finisher across the line, placing 28th in 27:35. He was followed closely by
Jason Leonard in 31st at 27:40.
Brian Ulrich finished 38th in 27:49 and
Morgan Elliott placed 44th in 28:08 to round out the scorers.
Michael Beegle finished 48th in 28:18 and
Alex Koksal was 58th in 28:35 to round out the alternates and complete The Rock's top-seven.
Matt Mumford (70th, 28:50),
Joseph Hickey (73rd, 28:55) and
Rogers Clements (91st, 29:28) rounded out Slippery Rock's squad at the championships.
A total of 132 runners finished the race.
Slippery Rock will rest next weekend before heading to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Championships Nov. 20 in Cary, N.C. The top two teams in that race will advance to the National Championships.
