SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Senior Samantha Badaczewski was one of five players to score a goal for the Slippery Rock University field hockey team Wednesday as the Rock cruised to a 6-1 win over Mansfield in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action.

The victory, which is Slippery Rock's second in as many games, improves SRU's overall record to 5-12 and its PSAC-West mark to 2-5. The five wins are the most for a Slippery Rock field hockey team since 2002 while the six goals scored against Mansfield were the most by The Rock since a 9-0 win over Washington & Jefferson in 2002.

In addition to her two goals, Badaczewski also added an assist for Slippery Rock. Also getting in on the scoring action with one goal each were senior Katie Krouse, senior Allie Hartman, junior Rebecca Coleman and junior Erin Moran. Krouse recorded two assists while Hartman and Coleman also passed out an assist each.

As a team, Slippery Rock held advantages over Mansfield (5-12, 3-4 PSAC-West) in shots and corners 11-5 and 9-7 respectively.

The Green and White wasted little time as Coleman got the scoring started early when she beat keeper Jamie Twist with a goal off a Hartman assist at the 4:16 mark in the first half to put SRU ahead 1-0. However, Mansfield answered back less than three minutes later as Kristy Tutorow scored the Mountaineers only goal of the game at 7:04 to tie the match at 1-1. Both defenses proceeded to step up for the remainder of the half and after 35 minutes of play the score was tied at 1-1.

Slippery Rock scored early and often in the second half with Krouse striking first in the 37th minute for a goal that was assisted by Badaczewski to put The Rock up 2-1.  Badaczewski followed Krouse's goal up with a score of her own at 44:04 to give SRU a commanding 3-1 lead. Despite being known as Slippery Rock's top passer, Hartman also showed her finishing ability with a score, which was her second goal of the season, at 47:30 in the second half as SRU stretched its lead to three goals (4-1). Krouse was credited with assists on both Badaczewski's and Hartman's goals.

Badaczewski and Moran finished the game by adding insurance goals to ensure Slippery Rock's first back-to-back wins since the 2008 season.

Senior goalie Lisa Belcastro stopped three Mansfield shots to pick up the win.

SRU will look for its sixth win of the season on Sunday when No. 4 East Stroudsburg comes to Thompson Stadium for a 12 p.m. game. Sunday will also be Senior Day for Slippery Rock as Krouse, Badaczewski, Belcastro, Karen Citroen and Meghan Dougherty will all be honored for their contributions to the program prior to the game.
