Perkiomen Valley 01 has been good all year, from XC to Indoors, and now outdoors, they seem to be moving differently. Just this past week, at a dual meet, they had 5 boys go under the elusive 2-minute barrier over 800m. They had 2 go 1:56, 2 run 1:57, and a 5th was 1:59, with all 5 of them currently being ranked in the top 30 in the whole state.
Could this team find success on the outdoor circuit in the 4x800m? I think the answer to that question is yes. Coming off the indoor season, Perk Valley placed 3rd in the 4x8 and 6th in the DMR at the indoor state championships, and now they will only be getting better, gaining Kyle Tracey, coming off playing basketball during the winter, the Senior has already run 1:57 this outdoor season and seems to be the school's 3rd best half-miler.
Cooper Hey is coming off one incredible indoor season where he ran 4:20.16 for the full mile and 8:45.66 over 3000m. Hey anchored his team to their 6th place finish in the DMR this indoor season and also contributed a huge leg to the 3rd place finish DMR.
Nathan Boyer also helped out tremendously, contributing in a major way on both relays, running the 1200m leg on the DMR and providing major help on the 4x800. Boyer holds PRs of 1:56.57 800m, 4:25.17 Mile, and 8:49.91 3000m.
Zachary Krantz has had a crazy jump this year and will definitely be a major part of Perk Valley's 4x800m success this outdoor season, running a new PR this past week of 1:57.93 over the distance.
Luke Snyder may only be a sophomore, but he might also be the best alternet to a 4x8 in the state. Snyder just ran a new PR in the open 800 this past week of 1:59.08.
This team will be a major threat to win the 4x800m state title come late May at the PIAA outdoor state championships. The squad from Haverford will definitely be tough competition with a state record indoors in the event, but we shall see who will come out on top in about 6 weeks.
