COOPERS
LAKE, Pa. Led by freshman Kristina Martin, who was the fifth-fastest rookie finisher, Allegheny secured 10th out of 51 teams at the 2010 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional on the campus of Slippery Rock University. Martin and sophomore teammate Kelly Gallagher earned All-Region honors for their performance, although a lack of depth proved costly as the result put an end to the Gators' fall season.

Martin covered the 6k circuit in 23:17, finishing in the middle of a 12-person pack that was separated by less than 20 seconds. Gallagher was among the crowd, jumping 21 places from last year's race to finish 29th in a time of 23:24.

Senior Katie Stancik, who has been a model of consistency for the Gators this season, didn't enjoy one of her better races in her final college cross country event. Stancik, who earned All-Region plaudits in 2009, finished 68th in 24:20.

Allegheny traveled just five harriers for Saturday's regional championship with sophomore Sara Mitrano and junior Amber Wetzel rounding out the Gators' contingent. Mitrano finished 98th in 24:57, while Wetzel split 25:42. Allegheny's delta of 2:25 for its scoring unit was the largest spread of the season as the Gators dropped two places from last season's result.

“We were clearly hoping to run better, but our team raced hard,” remarked head coach Brent Wilkerson. “Our focus will shift to the track where I'm excited about our prospective development.”

The pair of All-Region honors by its young talent serves as a positive indicator for Allegheny's future potential and provided the team with two All-Region performers for the second consecutive year.
