Rock lands two on All-PSAC-West team

Gabrielle Malishchak
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Two members of the Slippery Rock University field hockey team earned All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division honors Tuesday in a release from the PSAC.

Sophomore midfielder Gabrielle Malishchak was named to the first team while junior defender Erin Moran earned second team recognition. Malishchak and Moran both earned second team All-PSAC West accolades a season ago.

The All-PSAC squad is voted on by the league's head coaches and includes two teams from both the PSAC-Eastern Division and the PSAC-Western Division. Each team is made up of three forwards, four midfielders, three defenders and one goalie.

Erin Moran
Malishchak scored six times to lead Slippery Rock in goals scored for the second consecutive season.  The Wanamie, Pa. native also passed out two assists for a total of 14 points. Malishchak, who earned PSAC-West Athlete of the Week accolades earlier in the season, started 19 of 20 games played, scored one game-winning goal and concluded the season with either a goal or an assist in four of The Rock's final six games.

Moran enjoyed a career-year in 2010. In addition to her four defensive saves, which were the third most in the PSAC and tied for sixth most in all of Division II, she set career-highs with four goals, eight points and 13 shots on goal. Moran, who started 19 games last season, has led SRU in defensive saves each season since arriving at Slippery Rock.

Slippery Rock finished the season with an overall record of 6-14 and a PSAC-West mark of 3-5. The six wins were the most for The Rock since 1998, while the 3-5 division record was just shy of earning a berth in the conference playoffs.
