MARIETTA, Ohio –
Allegheny track and field kicked off the new season with a strong performance at the Marietta College First Glimpse meet at the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center on Saturday. Competing with a limited roster, the Gators tested the legs of some of its sprinters, jumpers, and throwers, while giving head coach Brent Wilkerson his first glimpse of Allegheny's non-distance talent.

Beth Muller enjoyed the most exciting day for the Gators. She ran 26.79 en route to a commanding win in the 200-meter dash. Muller replicated that success in the 400m where she broke the tape with a strong early-season time of 59.37. Teammate Rebecca Lendyak finished third overall in both events.

All-American Lauren Butler also secured a victory on day one of the 2010-11 indoor track season. Butler delivered a toss of 41'3” on her first attempt in the shot put and the effort held up for the win. She also closed fourth overall in the weight throw.

Freshman Dominique Billingslea turned in an inspiring performance in the 55m, finish fifth overall in her first collegiate race. Billingslea ran 7.79 during prelims and bettered the mark to 7.77 at finals.

On the men's side, the competitors and highlights were few, although Allegheny's long sprinters delivered a solid effort. Taylor Throckmorton finished fourth overall in the 400m in a time of 50.60 while Marc Funerlich followed just behind in fifth. Throckmorton also finished sixth in the 200m with a clip of 23.56.

“I was really happy with the way our teams competed today,” offered Wilkerson. “We were coming off a very tough week of workouts, and our results indicated a truly outstanding effort. We're just getting going, and many of our student-athletes didn't compete, but this was a great start to the winter season.”

Hosted by Marietta College, Saturday was a non-scoring meet. Members of the Allegheny program also competed at the Earlybird Pentathlon Invitational hosted by Case Western Reserve University.
