Crusaders Open Season At Bow Tie Invitational

Alvernia Sets Seven School Records

Collegeville, Pa. (Sat. Dec. 4, 2010) - Alvernia's Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field teams opened their season Saturday at the Bow Tie Invitational hosted by Ursinus College. Alvernia had 14 athletes compete in ten different events while setting seven school records and having four women qualify for the MAC Championships.  The Women's team finished 15 of 15 while the men's team did not report a team score.

Freshman Amanda Searle (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional) highlighted the women's effort with a throw of 10.95m in shot put, good for a third place finish. Searle's throw broke the school record and qualified her for the conference championships. Sophomore Katie Wimberg (Galloway, NJ/Sacred Heart) also qualified for the MAC Championships in shot put with a throw of 9.37.

Other school records broken were in the 55m hurdles with freshman Stephanie Coleman posting a time of 9.60, in the 55m dash with freshman Jessica Wiess (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) posting a time of 8.13 and in the 200m dash with fellow freshman Chalice Melhem (Pen Argyl, PA./Pen Argyl) finishing in 29.64.

From the men's team, freshman Dillon Emery (Lcoustdale, Pa./North Schuylkill) broke the school record in shot out with a throw of 10.57m and freshman Daniel McClean establishing school records in both the 55m hurdles (10.15) and the pole vault (2.75m).

The Crusaders return to action on Thurs. Jan. 13th when they travel to Kutztown University.
