KENT, Ohio –
Chris Warning broke the school record in the weight throw and posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark to lead the Slippery Rock University men's track and field team on the opening day of the Kent State Golden Flash Gala Friday night.
Warning, competing in a primarily Division I field, managed a career-best throw of 17.50 meters, topping the previous SRU record of 17.42 meters set by Adam Jones in 2008.
Also competing for SRU Friday night was
Jason Leonard, who finished ninth in the 5,000-meter run with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying time of 15:29.90.
Brady Wert and
Andrew Greenslade competed in the first four events of the heptathlon. After day one of the seven-event contest, Wert sits in 11th-place with a score of 2,589 points. Greenslade sits 14th at 2,562.
Only the weight throw, long jump, 5,000m and opening events of the heptathlon were contested Friday night. The Rock will continue competition with the remaining events Saturday. Live results will be available at the link above.
Slippery Rock will break for the holidays after this weekend and will not compete again until the final weekend in January.
